An Open Letter To John Grimek

JOHN GRIMEK recently won the Mr. Universe Contest held in London, England during Olympic Games. Steve Reeves, current sensation, placed a close second. Unfortunately other famous American Body Builders could not raise the necessary funds to participate in the 1948 Mr. Universe Show. One of these is Clarence Ross, who is pictured here. According to polls conducted among our many readers Clarence Ross is accepted as the greatest bodybuilder in the world today. He has won the "Mr. America" contest, the "Professional Mr. America Contest" and the "Mr. U.S.A." Contest and is deservedly popular of world fame.

On Nov. 6th, 1948 an open "Mr. America" Contest is being held at the Roosevelt Auditorium in New York City. Clarence Ross has like John Grimek won many physique titles, and has also defeated the outstanding contender, Steve Reeves in open competition.

Up until now the public has never been priveleged [sic] to witness both John Grimek and Clarence Ross in the same contest. Weight lifting fans are clammering [sic]for an opportunity to witness both in the same contest. We are openly inviting Grimek to participate in the Nov. 6th Contest with all his expenses paid and with judges which meet with his approval. Having just returned from England where he won the Mr. Universe Contest he should be in the best of condition and as the trip from his home town to New York is only a short one it should not convenience him too much.

Personal invitations are being sent to all famous bodybuilders and it is hoped all will compete in this show of shows, as the public for a long time has been clamoring for such a contest where ALL the nation's Best will compete in the SAME EVENT.

MUSLCEMEMORY NOTE: Its clear from the associated entry blank that the "open Mr America" contest is the IFBB Mr America. However, I believe this was held in 1949, not 1948, and Alan Stephan was the only top American to enter. Grimek did beat Ross in the 1949 pro "Mr. U.S.A." contest.
