It had to happen . . . and it did!

For the first time in history, the IFBB MR. UNIVERSE winner, the NABBA MR. UNIVERSE and the FIHC (International Amateur Weightlifting Federation) MR. UNIVERSE are all 100-percent WEIDER-TRAINED CHAMPIONS.

The IFBB winner is Larry Scott; the NABBA, Earl Maynard; the FIHC, Abd El Hamid El Guindi -- all trained and developed their bodies through Weider training principles. Each one of these three greats ranks among the greatest in Muscledom - and all owe a debt to the Weider System . . its training principles, unique exercisers and supplements.

No other system can make such claims . . . no system can be better judged as to what it can accomplish than to have three different organizations, in three different countries by three different sets of judges pick WEIDER men each time as tops in the contest. From among 300 contestants in these contests, WEIDER MEN WALKED OFF WITH THE TITLES. And if the facts are examined, almost every runnerup -- Weider men as well!

Naturally, I'm proud . . . and naturally, I want to brag a bit. After all, our Research Clinic staff works hard to develop the techniques and exercisers and supplements that make these champs. I also want to take this opportunity to warn up-and-coming bodybuilders to avoid making a mistake by enrolling in "free-hand" courses . . . "sure-fire" isometric courses . . . "dynamic tension" courses, and the like. Such courses promise fast results through "no effort" training -- and they waste time and money and yield nothing. Yes, I want to brag. . . if the Weider System can turn out three MR. UNIVERSE winners within a year - within a few months - then you can bet your last dollar that it can develop you too!

I believe our success may be attributed mainly to our new principles of exercise -- our new exercisers and new supplements. The sport of bodybuilding and its science has been going through radical changes recently -- each month seeing new principles, exercisers and supplements being developed by the Weider Research Clinic . . . all helping the up-and-coming bodybuilder make faster gains. The smart fellows immediately put our "know-how" to work and thereby make the fastest gains and, consequently, win the physique titles.

As an example of training principles, I would like to show you how building muscles has changed and is still changing monthly. Before the advent of the Weider System, everyone trained three times weekly -- doing 9 reps per exercise. Each week they increased the reps by one until 12 to 15 reps were done, and then an increase of 2 1/4 pounds was advised and the musclebuilder had to start over again with 9 reps and repeat the procedure. A muscle builder could spend a full year of working-out and never get beyond 100 pounds in the Curl stage, or 125 in the Press. This "horse and buggy" method of training was dumped in the garbage can with the advent of our system.

We introduced Sets, Flushing, Cheating, and other methods and principles, and this hurried muscle-building along swiftly. With the advent of the Split Routine (where a muscleman works-out 5 times to 6 times weekly, 3 workouts on the upper body and 3 on the lower body), the bodybuilder could then spend more time on each bodypart and he was then able to enter the BOMB AND BLITZ ERA. With the Split System the muscle-builder instead of spending only 10 minutes on a bodypart (such as arms, for example) could now spend 5 minutes on his arms alone, and really bomb them to fantastic growth.

This extra-hard work the musclebuilder was able to do, because of the advent of the incline board, benches, squat racks, multi-powers and the like -- made training easier. No more wasted effort -- and all this saved time. Further, the latest in nutrition was pushed into his workouts. The saved energy, the concentrated attacks on a muscle part, and better nutrition thus enabled the musclebuilder to train longer and harder. We thought that we had then finally reached the ultimate in workout technique, when along came another Weider Research Clinic technique . . .

A DAY-BY-DAY SPLIT ROUTINE WORKOUT

"Impossible!" you say? The champs are doing it . . . that's right, they are now splitting their workouts into two workouts per day. Some work-out in the morning for an hour and in the evening for another 1½ to 2 hours, bombing each bodypart harder than ever. Some champs are beginning to work-out 12 times weekly for short periods of time. . . hence, the advent of 20-inch-plus arms, and other muscles to match.

A few years ago a champ would have burned out fast on this technique, but not today. The reason? The advent of nutritional research, "Super Protein "101," "Crash-Nutra-Muscle," "Crash Weight Formula #7" and the like. To bomb and blitz in two-a-day workouts, you need loads of energy, swifter recuperative powers -- and this comes only from plenty of rest, control of emotions (saving up energy) and proper nutrition.

After all, if a musclebuilder needed 110 to 140 complete protein grams daily, and got only 60, naturally his recuperative powers were slower. . . naturally his development wasn't as fast, and he tired quicker and burned out faster. Of course he swallowed 12 tablets. So what! He got 5 complete grams. . . better than nothing, but not enough for the two-a-day Split Routine bombing and blitzing deals. Only the advent of better nutrition and "Super Protein "101" allowed him to drink down another 60 to 90 complete protein grams easily -- to feed his muscles fast. The advent of "Crash Weight Formula #7" and the extra easily digested calories, and "Crash Nutra-Muscle" with its extra abundance of carbohydrates gave the musclebuilder the exact foods he needed for championship growth and faster development.

So you can see how the game of bodybuilding has changed and is changing, in its training principles from the 1-set-and-9-reps workout to Super Sets, Flushing, the Split Routine, "Tri-Bombing" and now, "Day-by-Day Split Routine" training . . . 12 workouts per week!

Also, a little study shows how nutritional habits, from: lack of protein -- to better protein diets, plus tablets and powder -- and now. Without this better nutrition and supplements, the bodybuilder would never have the strength, energy and stamina for these newly-developed techniques.
