An Open Letter to Carl H. Hansen
National President A.A.U. Of The United States
Mr. Carl H. Hansen, President
Amateur Athletic Union of the United States
327 Clay Street
Oakland, Calif.
Dear Mr. Hansen:
Undoubtably it has always been the major objective of the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States to conduct and promote fair sports and to regulate strictly any contest or event sanctioned under its jurisdiction.
As one who has always regarded these standards as the acme of amateur sportsmanship, and having devoted twenty-five years to bodybuilding, I address this letter to you as the head of the A.A.U., regarding certain charges which have been made against one Robert C. Hoffman of York, Pa.
In my opinion, these charges require a complete investigation, and as an Editor, I feel that the bodybuilding public is entitled to know the results of such an investigation, and whether hard and fast rules of the Association have been violated, especially referring to certain alleged acts by Hoffman in the American version of the Mr. Universe Contest held at Virginia Beach on the nights of June 9, and 10, 1956.
The specific purpose of this letter is to inquire when the investigation will commence, if it has not already been initiated.
We have been waiting for several months for information by the A.A.U. as to the scope and time of such an investigation, and I sincerely urge that proper action not be delayed.
You may be assured that I am ready to render my assistance and co-operation to the Association, to the end that this matter will be brought to a speedy conclusion, and I am certain that the findings will be in conformity with the high ideals of American Sport.
Respectfully yours,
Barton R. Horvath
